Alpine Ships R-A90S 6-Channel Amp
Alpine Electronics has released to dealers the R-A90S 6-channel amplifier ($599.95). It joins Alpine’s R-Series amplifier lineup that is matched in both power and performance with the R-Series speakers and subwoofers, the company says.
The 5-channel amplifier solution has grown in popularity, says Alpine, due to its ability to provide total system power from a single amplifier. To add value and versatility to this category, without sacrificing the sub power of a 5-channel, Alpine says, it has created a 6-channel amplifier with staggered power that has double the amount of power on the fifth and sixth channels. This allows the amplifier’s final two channels to provide 500 watts to a single subwoofer at 4 ohms when in 5-channel mode, or 150 watts x 2 at 4 ohms to mid-basses in 6-channel mode.
The R-A90S can be used in various layouts including a 3-channel mode (200W x 2 @ 4 ohms, 500W x 1 @ 4 ohms), a 5-channel mode (75W x 4 @ 4 ohms, 500W x 1 @ 4 ohms), or utilize its onboard bandpass crossovers to independently power a 3-way component system in 6-channel mode (75W x 4 @ 4 ohms, 150W x 4 @ 4 ohms).
This amp’s versatility, according to Alpine, is such that it can act as both a 5-channel amplifier that can power a full system as well as a 6-channel amplifier to power a 3-way active front stage. The unique channel layout is also beneficial to mobile electronics specialists, as they can rely on one amplifier for multiple applications.
The R-A90S has input capability to add the RUX-KNOB.2 Remote Bass Control Knob (sold separately). The remote bass knob controls the bass in the subwoofer by adjusting the gain on the amplifier for quick bass adjustments when needed.
The R-A90S is available at Alpine Authorized retailers or online at www.alpine-usa.com through Crutchfield.
