Amazon eero Gets Apple HomeKit Support
Amazon’s eero received an update today which allows the mesh Wi-Fi routers to support Apple’s HomeKit. Apple customers can now enjoy enhanced security and control over their smart home accessories. Other eero security features will continue to work as normal in addition to several new features from HomeKit.
“With Apple HomeKit, eero gives you even more protection of your HomeKit accessories and an easy way to manage what they are allowed to communicate with in your home and through the internet,” eero describes.
HomeKit offers three levels of security to meet everyone's needs:
- Restrict to Home: considered to be the most secure option, users can only interact with HomeKit through their Apple devices. The accessory will be restricted to access the Internet so things like firmware updates will be blocked.
- Automatic: as the default security option, accessories will be able to communicate with HomeKit and connections recommended by the their manufacturers
- No Restriction: In this mode, devices will be able to interact with any device in a user’s network or Internet-based service.
The update is available now on the eero app for iOS. To update the system to support HomeKit, users should go to the “Discover” tab at the bottom of the app and follow the prompts. After that, Apple recommends removing then re-add ing all Wi-Fi HomeKit products to ensure the utmost protection. HomeKit is supported on all eero, eero Pro, and eero Beacon devices running eeroOS 3.18.0 or later.
