Amazon Plans to Open Second Headquarters
They don’t know exactly when or where yet, but Amazon does know that it will open a second headquarters in North America. In a statement released Thursday morning, the ecommerce giant, which ranks number two on the Dealerscope Top 101 CE retailers, said HQ2 will create tens of thousands of jobs in construction and related industry and generate tens of billions of dollars in additional investment in the city it ends up being located in.
"We expect HQ2 to be a full equal to our Seattle headquarters," Jeff Bezos, Amazon founder and CEO, said in the statement. "Amazon HQ2 will bring billions of dollars in up-front and ongoing investments, and tens of thousands of high-paying jobs. We're excited to find a second home."
Specifically, Amazon said it plans to invest over $5 billion in construction, and it could grow HQ2 to include as many as 50,000 employees. The company is opening an HQ2 Request for Proposal today to local and state government leaders.
