Amazon Strikes Deal with Apple to Sell New iPhones, iPads
According to a major scoop from CNET, Amazon has signed a deal with Apple that will see the Cupertino tech giant’s latest products be made available directly through retailer’s ecommerce platform.
Currently, some Apple products like MacBooks and Beats headphones, are available through Amazon. And consumers can find other Apple products made available through the third-party marketplace at varying prices and conditions. However, with the new deal, only Apple-authorized resellers will be allowed to sell Apple and Beats products through that marketplace. Additionally, the latest Apple products like the iPad Pro, iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and Apple Watch Series 4 will begin to appear on Amazon’s website in the coming weeks. Notably missing from the announcement is the HomePod—viewed as a direct competitor to Amazon’s Echo.
It is a somewhat limited partnership, though, from a geographic standpoint. Only a handful of countries will see Apple products made available through Amazon, including the U.S., U.K., France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan, and India.
