Amazon Unveils Kindle Fire Tablet, Kindle Touch
Amazon, at a press event In New York Wednesday, jumped headfirst into the tablet wars, unveiling a new seven-inch Android device called the Kindle Fire that will retail for $199.99.
CEO Jeff Bezos also unveiled a new touchscreen version of the Kindle Ereader. It will sell for $99 and $149 in Wi-Fi-only and 3G versions, while the regular Kindle has had its price reduced to $79. The new Kindles are slimmer and lighter than the old models.
The Kindle Fire ships Nov. 15, while the Kindle Touch devices will arrive Nov. 21 and the $79 Kindle is available now. All are available now through online preorder at Amazon. Brick-and-mortar retail availability for the new devices was not announced Wednesday.
