Americans Predict Economic Recovery by ‘09
• Americans expect the national economy to turn around by 2009, according to a CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll.
The poll, conducted March 14-16, found 60 percent of respondents believe the U.S. economy will be “good” next year, although 75 percent of them think the current economic situation is “poor.” More than 1,000 American adults were polled, with 83 percent claiming they were “confident” they will be able to maintain their standards of living next year and 85 percent “confident” they will maintain their jobs over the next six months.
In addition, nearly 85 percent of those polled were “confident” they would be able to pay off current and future debts, including college loans, car payments and credit cards. The average amount of credit card debt of those questioned was $4,000.
