After Ruling, Vonage Lives Another Day
The voice-over-IP provider Vonage, dogged for weeks by fears that a patent lawsuit from Verizon would knock it out of business for good, may keep signing up new customers, an appeals court judge ruled Tuesday. The New York Times also reported that the issue will be revisited before an appeals court on June 25.
Wednesday’s stay was an extension of an earlier, similar decision, which stayed an injunction by a lower court earlier this month that stated Vonage had to stop signing up customers. At issue were three patents held by Verizon that a district court found were violated by Vonage. The company’s CEO stepped down earlier this month, and Vonage filed papers with the SEC last week indicating that it may file for bankruptcy.
