An E-Gear Review: Amcor PLM14000E Portable Air Conditioner
The Portable Polar Express
If you’ve ever walked into a meat locker at your local butcher shop, especially on a hot summer day, you know just how cold it can get in one of those rooms. Well, walking into a room in your home or apartment is no different and the unit cooled the living room in my apartment fabulously.
The Amcor PLM14000EH Portable Air Conditioner is a nicely designed, well executed cooling machine. At an inexpensive $469 MSRP and incredible 14000 BTUs, this portable unit cools a room up to 400 sq. ft. Setup of the unit was nothing more than a cinch, and I did it in under 7 minutes (Yes, I was keeping track of the time). You basically take it out of the box, hook the extended exhaust hose up to the window (Unit also comes with slide bar connector and adjustable slide bar for this installation), letting the unit sit upright for 2 hours without turning it on and you’re good to go. After waiting the 2 hours, I sat in my recliner, turned the TV on and proceeded to turn the unit on as well. Unfortunately, I had to turn the volume up on the TV, because the air conditioner was very loud. However, this was certainly not an issue for me as within 15 minutes of turning the unit on, I had ice cubes forming in my glass of iced tea.
