Black Friday Gets Deadly: Trampling in New York, Shooting in California
Black Friday may have gone better than expected sales-wise, but that doesn't mean bad things didn't happen. A pair of violent incidents, one in New York and another in California, both made national headlines.
In the early-morning hours Friday, an employee at the Wal-Mart store in Valley Stream, N.Y., on Long Island, was trampled by customers who had torn doors off their hinges and stampeded into the store, numerous news outlets reported. The man, a 34-year-old immigrant who lived in Queens, was pronounced dead later that day.
Customers were later said to be irate that the store was later closed, temporarily, as police tended to the crime scene. Investigators are studying the videotape of the incident in order to identify suspects.
