Apple Sold 300,000 iPads on First Day
The opening weekend of sales for Apple's iPad device was so strong that the company may have sold twice as many of the devices than originally predicted, according to one analyst. Meanwhile, the company said Monday that on Saturday, the device's first day available, Apple sold 300,000 iPads.
According to Bloomberg News, analyst Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray and Co. said Sunday that Apple may have sold as many as 700,000 iPad units in its first weekend, which is significantly higher than the 200,000 to 300,000 predicted by Munster and other analysts.
Munster's estimate covered Saturday and Sunday, whereas the Apple announcement only factored in the first day. In addition, Apple said that more than one million apps were downloaded from the App Store, and 250,000 e-books from the iBooks store, on the first day.
