Analyst: XM/Sirius Decision is Near
A decision from the U.S. Department of Justice on the merger between satellite radio companies XM and Sirius is likely to come “imminently,” as an analyst wrote late last week that approval from Justice could come as soon as last Friday or Monday.
BusinessWeek reported that Robert Peck, an analyst with Bear Stearns, had written Nov. 30 that the DOJ was about to make a decision, and that decision would mostly be an approval. Peck cited “contacts in DC,” adding that junior staff at the department are opposed to the merger, but that top officials would be unlikely to stand in its way.
If approved by Justice, the merger’s only remaining hurdle would be the FCC.
