The box office hit “300” broke a relatively young record this week, when it sold 250,000 copies between Blu-ray Disc and HD DVD in its first week, to become both the highest- and fastest-selling high-definition disc in the history of format, DailyTech.com reported.
No breakdown was available of how much of each format the movie sold.
In part due to its policy of releasing movies in both formats, the Warner Bros. studio boasts six of the ten highest-grossing hi-def releases, in addition to “300”: The movies “The Departed,” “Superman Returns,” “Batman Begins,” and “Happy Feet,” as well as the complete edition of the BBC/Discover Channel series “Planet Earth.”
