“Architect” Kutaragi to Leave Sony
The Sony Corp. executive who shepherded the creation of the iconic Playstation gaming console will leave the company this summer, the Associated Press reported Thursday.
Ken Kutaragi, the chairman and chief executive of Sony Computer Entertainment (the company’s gaming division), will step down in June. He had previously, in December, been stripped of his duties as president of the division. He will be replaced by Kazuo Hirai, who earlier replaced him as president. He had been an employee of Sony since 1975.
The departure is largely attributed to Sony’s failure to maintain its top position in the gaming console field.
