Andover Audio is spotlighting this season two new products to enhance the audio listening experience.
The SpinBase ($300) is a powered speaker system designed specifically to sit under a turntable, giving turntable enthusiasts a compact, high-quality speaker system suitable for small spaces. Equipped with low-latency Bluetooth 5.0, users can stream the latest tunes from smart devices in between vinyl plays.
Spinbase uses an arrangement of two woofers and two tweeters to produce stereo imaging akin to what a bookshelf speaker pair would provide, says the company, creating a balanced sound stage, making everywhere the best listening position. It is also engineered not to pass along vibrations to the turntable, says the company. It features Bluetooth streaming and a built in phono preamp, and is compatible with multiple sources.
The Andover PM-50 over-ear planar magnetic headphones ($500), by virtue of their planar magnetic drivers, are said by the company to better the performance characteristics of typical dynamic driver-equipped headphones, which it says are more susceptible to distortions, distributing the driving force across the entire diaphragm surface. The resulting sound, says Andover Audio, is more natural, with accurate frequency reproduction, providing hours of listening without ear fatigue. The PM-50 can be driven by portable music players, high-end DACs, and dedicated headphone amplifiers. They are made of walnut hardwood and feature a frequency response range of 15Hz to 50kHz and a driver sensitivity of 102dB/1mW.
