Android Widens Market Share Lead
Google's Android operating system has widened its lead in domestic smartphone market share, as Google and Apple continue to distance themselves from the pack, according to comScore MobiLens numbers released this week.
According to the survey, Google now has 43.7 percent of the U.S. smartphone market, up from 38.1 percent in May, while Apple's share has risen slightly from 26.6 percent to 27.3. Research in Motion dropped from 24.7 percent in May to 19.7 percent. Microsoft remains fourth, dropping slightly from 5.8 percent to 5.7.
On the manufacturer side, Samsung remains on top in overall mobile OEM share with 25.3 percent, followed by LG with 21, Motorola with 14 and Apple with 9.8.
