Apple, Fox Near Deal on Digital Movie Rentals
In a big move towards what many see as the future of at-home movie-watching, Apple and 20th Century Fox have reportedly reached agreement on a deal that will allow for online rentals of Fox movies through the ITunes Store. The Wall Street Journal reported that the deal is on the verge of being announced.
Exact financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Apple already sells movies through the iTunes music store, but the company has been attempting to persuade movie studios to allow a rental model. Fox is apparently the first to bite; the deal reportedly also will allow for Fox DVDs to be packaged with Apple’s Digital Rights Management software, which will allow for copying onto iPods.
