Apple Takes Top Spot in Mobile PCs
Thanks to the iPad, Apple has overtaken HP for the top spot in worldwide mobile PCs, according to preliminary results of a report by research firm DisplaySearch.
According to the firm's Quarterly Mobile PC Shipment and Forecast Report, Apple's market share of mobile PCs has reached 17.2 percent, beating HP by more than a million units in the fourth quarter. HP, Acer and Dell round out the top four.
“While we anticipate increased competition in the tablet PC market later this year with the introduction of Android Honeycomb-based tablets, Apple’s iPad business is complementing a notebook line whose shipments widely exceed the industry average growth rate,” Richard Shim, Senior Analyst at DisplaySearch, said as part of the announcement.
