While Research in Motion's BlackBerry still rules in smart phone market share, Apple is rapidly gaining ground, setting up quite a battle in 2009. That's according to the latest figures released this week by ChangeWave Research.
The firm found that BlackBerry's current market share is 41 percent, which is steady compared to every quarter this year. However, Apple has jumped from 6 percent in January to 23 percent in December, despite having only the old and new iPhone products on the market in that time.
On the question of intent to buy in the next 90 days, RIM has jumped to the lead with 39 percent to Apple's 30; Apple led 56-23 in June, the month the iPhone 3G was released, but its lead slipped to 34-30 in September. Meanwhile, on the question of customer satisfaction, only 33 percent of BlackBerry Storm owners proclaimed themselves "very satisfied," compared with 77 percent of owners of the original iPhone in its first month of release.
