iTunes Store Reaches Five Billion Download Milestone
Apple Inc. announced Thursday that music fans have now downloaded over five billion songs from the iTunes store. With the largest music catalogue of over eight million songs, iTunes is the most popular music retailer in the U.S. (surpassing Wal-Mart as of April 3).
iTunes’ reached its two billionth download on Jan. 6, 2007, its three billionth July 31, 2007, and four billionth Feb. 27 of this year, displaying the store’s proliferating user base.
With Apple abandoning the EDGE network for their upcoming new iPhone, users will be able to download song files to their mobile devices with increased speeds via the 3G network. The iTunes store extends beyond music as customers are purchasing and renting upwards of 50,000 movies per day, making iTunes the world’s premier online movie outlet.
