Apple Sells 1 Millionth iPhone
Apple swiftly reached a milestone on Monday, selling its one-millionth iPhone device just over two months (74 days) after the product’s release. In a statement released by Apple, CEO Steve Jobs noted that it took nearly two years for the iPod to reach a similar milestone.
“We can’t wait to get this revolutionary product into the hands of even more customers this holiday season,” Jobs added. This echoed an admission from the company last week that the reason for the recent $200 cut in the device’s price was a desire to “go for it this holiday season.”
According to the New York Times’ BITS blog, the milestone came three weeks earlier than the company’s goal of selling 1 million iPhones. The trumpeting of the milestone, BITS speculated, was to put across that the price cut did not come because the product was struggling.
