Apple this week announced upgrades to its Apple TV system, affecting both its firmware and the iPhone remote application.

According to AppleInsider the upgrades, which bring the hardware and software to Apple TV 2.4 and Remote 1.3, respectively, add a new Control button that provide a new way of navigating Apple TV from an iPhone or iPod Touch.

The software also adds By Genre, By Movie and Unwatched to viewing options, while also adding a Flickr search function.
