Appliance Battle Heats Up: Whirlpool Sues LG
Whirlpool today announced it has filed a patent infringement action against LG Electronics and its U.S. and Mexican affiliates.
The action, filed with the International Trade Commission in Washington, DC, states that several LG refrigerators imported into the U.S. infringe on five Whirlpool patents, according to a statement issued by Whirpool. Whirlpool is asking the ITC to issue an order to stop LG from selling and importing products into the U.S. that infringe on its patents. Whirlpool believes that such an order would affect the majority of the refrigerators sold in the U.S. by LG, according to the statement.
LG, based in South Korea, denied the charge on Thursday, adding the company would “actively” respond to Whirlpool’s action, according to a Reuters report.
