The New World Order of OEM Integration
JL Audio has introduced the CleanSweep CL441dsp. Similar in function to the AudioControl unit, it takes the concept a step further by offering a sophisticated 32-bit DSP processor to automatically equalize each of four input channels with 30 bands of equalization. In order to accomplish this, the installer just needs to load the supplied CleanSweep calibration CD into the factory-installed CD player, set its volume control between one-half and three-fourths, and play the calibration track. The whole analysis takes about 20 seconds to erase the wacky crossover points and signal manipulation of the OEM audio system and turn them into a clean signal ready for aftermarket amplification. Although the AudioControl has more powerful equalization with the combination of graphic and parametric equalizers, the CL441dsp definitely gets a nod from the installer for ease-of-use. Easy-to-read diagnostic LEDs on the surface of the unit makes sure everything is hooked up properly. Plus, how great is fully-automatic tuning? The CL441dsp can provide a turn-on signal for aftermarket equipment whenever an audio signal from the OEM audio equipment is detected. If you use the CL441dsp’s volume knob (that also can toggle to an additional source) then the audiophile end user does not have to worry about volume-dependent equalization effect.
For example, a factory system may reduce bass output when the user cranks it up to protect itself. The CL441dsp can eliminate these annoying EQ circuits, which is especially useful when you are adding aftermarket subs. After all, aftermarket subs can blow away factory bass response from factory subs anyway!
Handheld PDAs have most often graced the pockets of executives, however Rockford Fosgate’s 3Sixty.2 (MSRP $699.99) takes the technology to the installation bay. The 3Sixty.2 delivers unprecedented control and flexibility to aftermarket and OEM sound systems with up to 153 bands of equalization and signal manipulation. But the really neat part is using a Palm OS device to tweak the system in real time via a Bluetooth connection from anywhere within the vehicle! It features 153 bands of equalization and signal manipulation. It can also automatically correct and sum OEM inadequacies and factory EQ settings. From a messy OEM equalized system you get flat frequency response emanating from outputs so the installer has a great starting place to tweak the system to sound terrific.
