As Sales Jump, Blu-ray Player Prices Set to Plunge
the format are about to drop significantly in price.
According to numbers released by Adams Media Research last week, 9 million Blu-ray Discs were sold in the U.S. in the first three months of this year- a number which, despite the recession, nearly doubled the 4.8 million units sold in the same period last year.
Adams also found that there are 10.5 million of what it calls "Blu-ray Households," meaning homes that own either a Blu-ray Disc player or a Sony PlayStation 3.
Meanwhile, according to Blu-ray.com, prices of Blu-ray Disc players are expected to drop as low as $99 this holiday season. That's due to an influx of Chinese manufacturers entering the sphere this year.
