Astell&Kern’s SP1000M Small-Footprint Audio Player is No Lightweight
Astell&Kern announced at the recent Pepcom show that it would make available in mid- to late October – and show at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest - a new flagship high-resolution audio portable 32-bit/384kHz player in its A&ultima line with a smaller footprint and a more affordable price-tag than the company’s SP1000: the all aluminum SP1000M ($2,399).
It uses some of the same technologies as in the SP1000, including a music-centric GUI (graphical user interface) that was introduced on the SP1000.
Its weight is almost half that of the earlier model, and it features a four-inch high-resolution screen; its workings consist of two AK4497EQ DACs, with separate DACs dedicated to each left and right audio channel for better stereo separation and a wider soundstage. It is endowed with 128GB of internal memory vs. the 1000’s 256GB, and there is a microSD car slot to support the addition of more memory.
The device also supports high-resolution music streaming services include TIDAL, MOOV and Groovers+. Firmware will be available for the player to add Android APK(Android PacKage) support, which will let users install additional music streaming servifes to the player by copying and installing the necessary APK file.
