AT&T to Acquire T-Mobile
AT&T announced Sunday that it has agreed to purchase T-Mobile from Deutche Telecom for around $39 billion. The deal combines the second and fourth-largest mobile carriers in the U.S.
The sale price consists of $25 billion in cash, with the rest paid in AT&T stock. The deal is expected to close within 12 months, the companies said. Regulatory delays are possible.
"This transaction represents a major commitment to strengthen and expand critical infrastructure for our nation's future," Randall Stephenson, AT&T's Chairman and CEO, said as part of the announcement. "It will improve network quality, and it will bring advanced LTE capabilities to more than 294 million people."
