Analyst: Verizon iPhone Would Cause Million-User Shift
Were Verizon Wireless to begin selling the iPhone next year, AT&T would lose 1.4 million subscribers, a full 25 percent of its base, according to a report Tuesday by Credit Suisse, as cited by the Silicon Valley/San Jose Business Journal.
In some good news for AT&T, only three percent of users said they would break their current contract to switch to Verizon, with most saying they would wait until their contract expired. Credit Suisse predicted that with the iPhone in the Verizon fold, that carrier's subscriptions would double to around 4 million, with AT&T going flat.
Multiple reports, including one by Bloomberg News this summer, have placed the iPhone on Verizon early in 2011, although no such deal has been officially confirmed.
