Report: CDMA iPhone on the Way
AT&T's monopoly on iPhone carriage in the U.S. appears to finally be coming to an end. The Wall Street Journal reported Monday that Apple is working on a new version of the iPhone that would work on CDMA networks, such as that of Verizon Wireless and Sprint Nextel.
The Journal, citing "people briefed by" Apple, added that the company will also be releasing an upgraded GSM phone this summer, which would presumably still be carried by AT&T. Pegatron Technology Corp., a subsidiary of ASUSTek Computer Inc., is said to be working on the CDMA version of the popular device.
The iPhone has been exclusive to AT&T since its first version was introduced in 2007.
