Attitudes from the Publisher
I'm sitting here in my chair, whacked out by the pre-CES blitz compounded by a pre-CES cold. As I reflect, numbed by SineAid and Contac, I'm not quite sure if I'm dizzy with medication or stress, ready to lobby that we move CES to March.
But the truth is that when CES is over, and after various conversations with clients, it always seems that CES is held at the right time. Everybody is so upbeat, so positive, ready for the challenge of the New Year. And with that new year comes new directions and ideas that will reawaken the sleeping American economy. The consumer electronics industry is the perfect industry to do that, with the best technology to excite the consumers within every demographic. Of all the consumer industries out there, consumer electronics offers the best value and the most enjoyment.
What you as retailers need to focus on is getting the consumer away from the inexpensive, low-margin product and shift their attention to the high-end, high-margin feature-packed digital products. For the cost of dinner with my wife I can buy a 27-inch analog television. Let's promote application and lifestyle rather than just price.
