When I started in this business in the '80s, consumer electronic retailing was pretty simple…. The VCR was a hot product, and people were talking about (but not yet selling) home theater.
Back then, the retailer didn't really need all that much knowledge about technology and the business itself was pretty simple. You bought a product, you sold it. The biggest technical challenge was teaching the consumer how to record from the TV or how to reset the VCR clock.
Okay, so it wasn't that simple.
