Signs of Life
As we closed this issue, Apple broke the news on its new iPod Nanos and iPod Touch products. At that very moment there was probably a collective round of applause from accessory manufacturers and CE retailers. New products and new-form factors mean big money from accessories.
Each time Apple comes out with a new product, the accessory companies rush to get cases, charges, adapters and cradles into the market. In fact, Steve Jobs hadn't even stepped offstage before e-mails started streaming into our editors announcing the latest attachment products. It's that kind of energy that convinces me we're headed for better times.
Sure, this has been a challenging summer. Gas has gone up, then down again. Housing has been a nightmare, and food prices are skyrocketing.
