Audio-Technica showed a breadth of headphone choices at the recent CanJam NYC 2019 exhibition that are due out in March. They included three premium audiophile models: the over-ear ATH-AP2000Ti, the flagship in-ear ATH-CK2000Ti and the in-ear ATH-CM2000Ti. Also on demo there: the company’s QuietPoint wireless active noise-cancelling (ANC) headphones lineup including the top-of-the-line wireless over-ear ATH-ANC900BT, plus the over-ear ATH-ANC500BT and in-ear ATH-ANC100BT.
The closed-back ATH-AP2000Ti ($1,250) carries 53mm drivers and are designed, says the company, for a Hi-Res Audio listening experience, with a 5Hz to 50,000Hz frequency response. Their Core Mount Technology (CMT) positions the driver’s voice coil in the middle of its housing so that the acoustic space is balanced in both the front and the back of the driver, explains Audio-Technica, providing efficient airflow and facilitating transparent midrange and high-frequency reproduction. The driver housings also use the company’s Double Air Damping System (D.A.D.S.) for improved bass extension and detail. Leather earpads are part of the design, and the headphones come with three detachable cables, a hard carrying case, a 1/4-inch stereo adapter and cleaning cloth.
The over-ear QuietPoint ATH-ANC900BT headphones ($299) have 40mm drivers and feature Audio-Technica’s digital hybrid active noise cancellation (ANC) technology, which uses multiple microphones to pick up environmental noise and to eliminate outside noise from a wider omnidirectional range. The mics feature a digital feedback and feed-forward design, said to eliminate the possibility of picking up unwanted audio signals that could affect noise-cancellation.
They also feature a touch-and-swipe control system that offers an ergonomic way of regulating volume and media playback in compatible devices. A switchable “quick hear-through” button gives wearers the choice of hearing environmental sounds for safer use outdoors or blocking them, as desired. The ATH-ANC900BT is Bluetooth 5.0-compatible and supports Bluetooth aptX, AAC and SBC codecs.
