In this day and age of challenges to the traditional mobile electronics business model, running a tighter, more efficient back office is no longer a wish; it’s imperative to survival. Small- to medium-sized M.E. establishment owners need to focus on keeping costs in check by maximizing the way they re-invest capital into their businesses, all while ensuring that their installers stay on top of industry trends and developments.
That was the impetus behind the formation of Automotive Technology Group, a Tempe, Ariz.-based joint venture between Mobile Solutions (mobilesolutions-usa.com), brainchild of expert trainer Bryan Schmitt, and Todd Ramsey’s Ramsey Consulting Group. With the creation of the group, which soft-launched at the SEMA (Specialty Equipment Marketing Association) convention in early November and will be fully deployed at the January 2007 CES, the two have extended Mobile Solutions’ innovative outreach approach in mobile electronics installation training, where the training is catered to the students. In effect, the new program—an “inreach” solution—brings the trainees to the training.
“With Mobile Solutions,” says Schmitt, “we do training, consulting and fabrication along with business management classes. That’s the model for Mobile Solutions—to go to our clients’ locations and teach on their premises. Lots of folks, however, like to go to a destination, and Arizona is great for that, because it’s always warm. Also, bringing trainees in gives us the ability to offer more. It’s kind of limiting sometimes when you take things on the road. There are some things you just can’t do with chemicals and welders and such. You have to ship everything ahead of time.
