Barnes and Noble Announces E-Book Plans
Barnes and Noble Monday announced that it will launch an e-bookstore on its Web site, which will include up to 700,000 books.
The effort is meant to compete with Amazon's Kindle and Kindle Store, although the bookstore chain is not coming out with a specific device. Instead, content from the store will be available on a variety of devices, including iPhones, BlackBerries, and computers themselves, the New York Times reported.
The store will have more books available than any other e-bookstore, due largely to a partnership with Google to make books from the Google Books database available, which they are not on the Kindle.
