Belkin Releases Skype-Enabled Wi-Fi Phone
Skype users will soon benefit from free phonecalls without the use of a PC. Belkin’s new Wi-FI Phone for Skype provides users with all the functionality of a Skype account – user-to-user VoIP calls for free, inexpensive calls to regular phones – without making them lug around a laptop or sit at a PC. Users will still require a Wi-Fi hotspot to make calls, but once in a hotel, coffee shop, home, office or anywhere with an 802.11b/g hub, they’re in business (although that Wi-Fi connection must also be free for the call to truly cost nothing). An onscreen menu replicates the PC experience of using Skype to connect a call. The phone ships in North America in August and will retail for $149.99.
