Best Buy Converter Boxes to Arrive Feb. 18
The DTV-to-analog converter boxes that will be necessary after the analog signal turnoff in 2009 will go on sale at Best Buy on Feb. 18, the chain’s spokesman told Broadcasting and Cable. The boxes sold at Best Buy will all be of the chain’s in-store Insignia brand.
The date represents a full year before the scheduled turnoff; the first of the special coupons made available by the federal government will be released that week. The boxes will be available at 917 Best Buy stores in 49 of the 50 states, and most will sell in the $50-$70 range.
The deadline for dealers to apply to take part in the program is March 31; those interested in doing so should visit www.ntiadtv.gov
