Best Buy Eyeing Downtown Minneapolis Store
Best Buy may be one of the largest companies in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area, but the retail giant, headquartered in suburban Richfield, has never had a store in downtown Minneapolis. That may be about to change, however, according to a story from Dolan Media Newswires.
According to the story, Best Buy is considering three different sites, one of which is on the ground floor of the city’s tallest building, the IDS Center. The other two are the site of a former car dealership, and a planned new development.
Best Buy has 16 locations in its home state, but no stores within the cities of Minneapolis or St. Paul. There was a location in Minneapolis’ Uptown section, but it closed in the late 1990s. Mayor R.T. Rybak is said to be a strong advocate of a Best Buy in Minneapolis.
