Best Buy Testing Used Game Kiosks
Best Buy has launched a pilot program for kiosks that redeem used video games, the company announced Tuesday.
In a post on his blog, Best Buy chief merchandising officer Barry Judge wrote that several Best Buy stores this week in the Dallas and Austin markets will debut a new kiosk in which customers can scan old video games and test them for functionality. If they work, the store gives them a voucher that can be exchanged for a Best Buy gift card.
"It's a pretty slick system and one of the few trade-in programs to provide instant gratification; you get the gift card on the spot and can redeem it on anything in the store, not just another game," Judge wrote on the blog. He added that the stores will also test selling of used games, as well as actual renting of games and movies from the kiosks.
