Best Buy Has Deal to Carry HD Radio
HD Radio technology got a major boost on Monday when the nation’s largest CE retailer announced plans to carry the products in all of its stores. The chain announced the move in a joint announcement along with the HD Radio Alliance and iBiquity Digital Corp., the company that designed the technology.
In addition to in-car radios such as the JVC KD-HDR1 Mobile and Visteon Zoom receivers, Best Buy will soon carry receivers for in-home listening, as well as mobile radios. The deal also includes a marketing program which will place advertising for the products in Best Buy’s newspaper inserts, as well as product displays.
The move makes Best Buy the first major CE retailer to place HD Radio technology in every store. Wal-Mart agreed to a similar deal in March, but it placed the products in a limited number of locations.
