Best Buy Offering Software Scrubbing
Best Buy recently began offering a service that, for $30, scrubs new PCs of unwanted software. According to the New York Times this offer, which has been aped by other CE retailers, is wreaking havoc on the business model PC and software makers have, leading to possible changes.
“You’d be surprised how often consumers tell us to get rid of it,” Robert Stephens, the head of the company’s Geek Squad division, told the Times; although he did not give numbers of how many customers are using the service.
HP, according to the Times, is said to be reconsidering its model of charging software companies millions of dollars to include their software on new PCs.
