Best Buy Tops Retail Rankings
Best Buy once again came in first in BigResearch's monthly rankings of electronics retailers, bringing its "store shopped most often" ranking up four points to 34.9 percent. Walmart came in second, followed by Target.
In the research firm's Consumer Equity Index statistic, on which 100 is flat, Amazon led with 171.28, followed by Costco (127.94), Target (126.23), Sam's Club (118.81), Walmart (115.16) and Best Buy (112.69).
"Best Buy and Walmart, with substantial gains in consumer preference share, seem likely to seize the opportunity to court Circuit City' former customers," BIGresearch senior analyst Pam Goodfellow said as part of the announcement. "But with the void Circuit City is leaving in the electronics category, watch for retailers like Amazon or Sam's Club to possibly rise to the occasion in coming months."
