Best Buy Touts, Then Backs Away From, Canadian Debut of iPhone
Best Buy’s Canadian Web site featured a notice early Tuesday that seemingly indicated that the iPhone’s release in Canada was imminent. However, the page was altered later in the day to merely indicate that Canadians want to know when they can get their hands on the popular device.
According to the Web site AppleInsider.com, the page initially stated that Canadians want to know “when can we get hands on the iPhone” and that the iPhone will be coming to Canada; we want you to be the first to know.” It also implored users to sign up for e-mail alerts about when and where the device would land north of the border.
But, as of around 1 p.m. EDT Tuesday, while the e-mail alert button and the previous paragraph remained, the “iPhone will be coming to Canada” line had been omitted from the site.
