The retail giant Best Buy said Thursday that it has upped its ultimate goals for store expansions, with the number of stores in the chain eventually rising to 1,800. The company had previously placed that number closer to 1,400.
The 1,800 stores would include about 1,400 in the U.S. and 200 each in Canada and Asia. The chain currently operates 852 stores in the U.S., 169 in Canada, and 14 in China.
“We continue to generate strong returns on new store openings, and we’re growing our market share with our customer-focused strategy,” Best Buy president and CEO Brian Dunn said in the company announcement.
