Best Buy CEO Hubert Joly, it was reported in April, would be adding the company's chairmanship to his responsibilities following the retirement of previous chairman Hatim Tyabji. On Tuesday, July was formally elected chairman by the company's board.
According to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Joly's election came at Best Buy's annual shareholders meeting. The meeting, the newspaper said, consisted of no questioning about showrooming or competition from Amazon, and concluded with the board approving Joly's compensation plan.
Also in attendance was Richard Schulze, the company founder and largest shareholder, who after a period of estrangement has returned as chairman emeritus.
