Internet Radio Extends Its Reach
After its first full quarter as a merged entity, Sirius XM reported a gain of 83,000 subscribers—mostly on the OEM side—and a 22 percent reduction in operating costs. And the company plans to redouble efforts to help aftermarket retail sales, said Jim Meyer, president of operations and sales.
The company also launched some new products, including the MiRGE interoperable satellite radio, available soon, and an iPhone/iPod Touch application for streaming Sirius XM content to subscribers over the devices, Meyer said, adding that there are seven million devices in the market that can use the app.
Dealers were pleased with the Apple app news, even though customers would not have to buy new hardware to use the service.
