"The other area that's been strong is appliances," continues Workman, who attributes that strength to the 18-month-long home-building boom across America, and to traditionally low-cost/long-term warranties availability for appliances. Another factor soon in play that will only help appliance warranty sales, he says, is some major manufacturers' decisions to discontinue longstanding policies of five- and 10-year major-component coverage and only offer one-year parts-and-labor warranties. "You'll have a doubling effect," he says, "where the appliance market is still expected to be fairly strong in the new year, and where this will open a tremendous opportunity for customers to buy warranties on appliances they buy."
