Beyond X-10 The Future of Home Automation
How it Works
Like it's competitors, ZigBee creates a mesh network, where devices work together to send data. It is a low-bandwidth wireless (RF) network control technology which operates on the standard of 802.15.4, and it has 26 frequencies from which to choose within its band. When the network sets itself up, it picks the quietest channel it can find and sets up the network on that channel. The network also has the ability, without operator intervention, to change channels. "We built-in multiple features to deal with interferences," says Bob Heile, Chairman of the ZigBee Alliance.
