More Nationwide initiatives are coming. In early January, responding to membership demand for more involvement in the custom install arena, Nationwide hired Jeannette Howe to be executive director of Nationwide's newly created Audio Video Specialty Division. Howe was formerly national membership manager for Brand Source's Home Entertainment Source division. She has also worked for the Professional Audio Video Retailers Association (PARA) and was once a buyer for Magnolia HiFi.
Nationwide went to the 2006 CES looking to build its relations with vendors addressing the custom installation market. Kelly said the group was building ties to industry training programs.
Also, Nationwide plans to target the lawn and garden power equipment market with a marketing entity similar to RentDirect. "That's a channel we're going to put some serious energy behind," Kelly says. "There are thousands and thousands of dealers out there, and we think a lot of services that we have in our tool box can be utilized in that channel." Kelly contends the lawn and garden category, with its spring and winter selling seasons, can benefit existing members as well.
