Excitement Surrounds Gates’ Last Keynote
In his 11th and final appearance as keynote speaker at International CES, Bill Gates took advantage of the stage to talk about the second digital decade. This decade, he says, will focus on connecting people and building appllications on PCs, the Internet, phone, car, TV and much more.
Some key elements on the next decade of digital include the HD experience everywhere; all service devices will be connected and power-natural user interface. Whereas the first digital decade centered on the keyboard and mouse, the next decade is about touch.
An important aspect for retailers is the Microsoft Surface--touchscreen panels where customers can pick products and customize them by interacting with a touch panel console. Even objects such as cell phones are recognized by the touchscreen when placed on the panel. It is what Gates calls a “fun, simple, retail experience.”
