Black Friday Comes
The biggest shopping day of the year has finally arrived, as customers rush to take advantage of major post-Thanksgiving sales, and retailers hoping to “get into the black” thanks to same.
According to early reports from Reuters, customers in the Northeastern United States had to brave bitter cold in order to take advantage of early-morning sales, while some stores attempted to offset the cold with free hot coffee.
In a time when Black Friday circulars are leaked weeks in advance, retailers this year attempted to obtain any advantage they could. Some this year included actually starting sales on Thanksgiving Day or earlier, opening doors before dawn and keeping them going through the weekend and (as Wal*Mart did) threatening to sue Web sites who publish leaked Black Friday circulars.
